To
introduce and teach the individual professional basic floral and flower shop
operation skills used in the floral industry. The majority of learning takes
place through "hands-on" experience, as well as, various lectures and
demonstrations.
This
professional course is divided into three weeks of training.
The
first week of training teaches the student basic design forms used throughout
the floral industry. The concepts learned during this stage provide the
building blocks for subjects learned during the remainder of the course. The
"Mechanics" and proper form of greening up are highly stressed during
all three weeks of the course.
The
Second week of class is primarily devoted to Sympathy and Funeral flowers. Proper selling techniques of sympathy flowers is also
covered. A continued practice of the first week course work is also covered.
The
third week of class is devoted to Wedding flowers. Construction of bridal and
attendant bouquets includes Colonial, Cascade and Toss bouquets. Students also
learn how to "book" a wedding, proper selling techniques and wedding
etiquette.

How to earn an extra credit during class.
At various times throughout the next three weeks, you
will have the opportunity to earn an extra A for your transcript. The
"A" is valued at 100%.
Bonus points are earned through a pop quiz and from
bonus questions on test. Bonus points will not change a test grade.
To receive the extra A, you will need to earn 45 bonus
points. 60 points will be available during the next couple of weeks.
A
tentative field trip to the wholesale supplier is planned for the third week of
class on Friday. As long as all other course work requirements are met on time,
the field trip will take place. However, if make up time is needed, the field
trip will not take place.
During your three
weeks of class, we encourage you to ask questions and get involved with your
training. We, your instructors, are here for YOU!
Remember that there is no such thing as a "stupid question" related
to your training. You should plan to take your notebook home and notes home
with you each night for review.
It is
a good idea to write down any questions that you may have when reviewing your
notes. A helpful study-aid is to re-write your notes for better retention
You
are given a 15-minute mid-morning and afternoon break and a 1-hour lunch break.
You will be released for lunch at 12:30pm. Since our geographic area is highly
busy during the lunch period, we allow you an extra 15 minutes to arrive at
your desired location. Therefore, you will need to return from lunch at 1:45pm.
You
may bring your lunch with you and eat in the classroom. Please remember that
your instructors are at lunch at the same time. Should anything come up during
lunch, please see the Chief Administrative Officer.
